          Tree Trimming FAQs

When is the best time to trim trees in Fresno?
For most Central Valley trees, late winter (January–February) while dormant is ideal. Palm trees can be trimmed year-round, though many homeowners prefer spring cleanup. Fruit trees should be pruned after harvest. We can advise on the best timing for your specific trees.
How often should palm trees be trimmed?
Most palm trees in the Central Valley need trimming once or twice a year. Letting dead fronds accumulate creates fire hazards, attracts pests, and can damage property during high winds. We remove dead fronds, seed pods, and flower stalks cleanly.
Do you remove the trees you trim?
We focus on trimming and shaping rather than full removal. For tree removal, we can refer you to a trusted partner. Our trimming services include dead branch removal, crown thinning, shaping, and cleanup of all debris.
Is tree trimming covered by HOA maintenance?
This depends on your HOA agreement. Many Clovis and Fresno HOAs cover trees in common areas but require homeowners to maintain trees on their lots. We work with HOA boards and individual homeowners alike.
How much does tree trimming cost in the Central Valley?
Most residential tree trimming costs $150–$500 per tree depending on size, species, and accessibility. Palm tree trimming runs $100–$350 per palm, with taller palms (30+ feet) costing more due to equipment needs. We provide free estimates before any work begins.
Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Fresno?
Routine trimming requires no permit. However, removing any tree with a trunk diameter of 12 inches or more requires a permit from Fresno's Development and Resource Management Department at (559) 621-8003. Heritage trees like native oaks, sycamores, and buckeyes have additional protections and may require replacement planting.
What is a hurricane cut and is it bad for palm trees?
A hurricane cut removes most fronds down to a small tuft at the top. This harms the palm — green fronds produce the food the tree needs to survive. Only remove dead or brown fronds. A healthy palm should maintain a full crown of green fronds after trimming.
          Do you trim fruit trees?
Yes — we trim citrus, fig, pomegranate, and other fruit trees common in Central Valley yards. Fruit trees are best pruned in late winter (January–February) during dormancy to promote spring fruiting. Citrus should be pruned after frost danger passes, typically late February to early March.
How do I know if my tree needs trimming?
Signs include dead or hanging branches, branches touching your roof or power lines, dense canopy blocking light to grass below, crossed branches rubbing together, or branches obstructing walkways and driveways. Annual inspection helps catch problems before they become safety hazards.
Is it safe to trim trees near power lines?
Never trim trees within 10 feet of power lines yourself — this is extremely dangerous. Contact PG&E at 1-800-743-5000 for trees growing into power lines; they may trim for free. We handle all other trees on your property and can coordinate with PG&E when needed.
